• Where are we going first?

IF I HAD A DOLLAR! Y’all love asking us this question. After the big rig is built we will take a couple local shakedown trips to smooth out initial kinks. After that, if the weather is nice we’ll start Rosie’s Roadtrip. If the weather is cold after our shakedown trips, we’ll probably head to Baja California before coming back to start Rosie’s Roadtrip. We’ll see!

  • What is Overlanding?

Many ways to answer this one. Essentially it’s vehicle based camping and exploration. Usually the goal is to be self-sufficient in remote areas and dispersed campsites.

  • Do we know what we've gotten ourselves into?

Not yet. But we’ll find out. We’re certainly not the first ones to do this, we’ll be fine! We’ll figure it out as we go.

  • Will the big rig have solar and water?

Yes! Think of the big rig as a tiny home on wheels. Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining/work area, solar power, lots of water. Definitely glamping, definitely not roughing it. But this will be our full-time home, so our situation is a little different.

  • What made us want to do this?

The idea struck us that we could take all of the travel materials we inherited and tell the story of following in Grandma’s steps. Life is short! We will not wait until retirement to enjoy this beautiful world. Or maybe it’s a borderline midlife crisis? You be the judge.

  • What will we name the big rig?

We’re fine with simply calling it the big rig. But that's also kinda boring. What’s your vote?

  • How do we afford this lifestyle?

First of all, we are not abundantly wealthy. We live frugally, we reduced our stuff, sold the house, and used part of the profit to hire a company to help us build the big rig. Brian works as a database administrator, and Julie works as a freelance video/photographer (#hireme #please).

  • Are we crazy?

    Probably.

About Us

We’re Brian and Julie. We feel like we’ve been working towards this nomad lifestyle forever. It’s not conventional, but neither are we.

We realized we’re never going to see as much of the world as we want to see if we continue to live the same routine we’ve had for decades. Together we decided to say yes to a massive risk that holds massive potential. In 2023 we reduced our stuff, sold the house, and moved into a teardrop camper towed behind a Toyota Tacoma. Then we bought an old military vehicle to convert into a full-time off-grid tiny home on wheels. None of this has been an easy decision. But if it was easy, everyone would do it. Right??

Join us on this crazy journey! We’re hoping we can move into the big rig at the beginning of 2026.

Our kiddo got married in 2024 and they threw an epic Halloween wedding. Our dog is Tank and he’s the best shepherd mutt. Even though he sheds a lot.
